It’s All Trumped Up
Trump’s dramatic entrance into American politics sets the stage for global tragedy. His life, a maelstrom of petty lies, construction supplies and gold bricks is Shakespearean. Daily he is the buffoon—representing the absolute worst in us, a cowardice that denies us the better parts of ourselves as Americans. Writers have a long history of holding the idiotic and powerful accountable. When the mainstream media fails, it has been the brave poets and novelists who have skewered the gilded.
We present It’s All Trumped Up, a collection of short stories written by an international group of authors in response to the presidential campaign of Donald John Trump, Sr. in 2016. The nine short stories and one poem were chosen from over 100 submissions from people all over the globe. The three best stories are currently being selected by a celebrated panel of judges from the speculative fiction community. We are honored to have the attention and intellect of Milton J. Davis, Balogun Ojetade, and Lisa Yaszek.
It’s All Trumped Up has proven to be a project that allows the disenfranchised and their concerned allies to frame the narrative in their own voice without the influence of corporate media. These voices are not engaged in a yelling match with a well-coiffed candidate and his constituency. No, these are voices that raise up in a chorus of concern. They sing both a song of sorrow and satire for when the tears run dry, when the nation you love appears to be crumbling, there is little left but the hope in laughter.
